In recent years, abortion access has become increasingly criminalized across the United States. The cascade of lawsuits and anti-abortion legislation has been brought about the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022 as a result of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case. Throughout the year of 2022, over 500 anti-abortion bills were introduced by state legislators, many of whom are aiming to ban all abortions across their respective states.

Sounds crazy, right?

Believe it or not: as of April 2024, 14 U.S states have already enacted

a near-total abortion ban

On Tuesday, March 26 2024 the United States Supreme Court heard arguments for new restrictions on the FDA-approved drug Mifepristone, which is used in addition to Misoprostol, in medication abortions. The restrictions, if passed, will create roadblocks in acquisition of Mifepristone (Mifepex). Specifically, the bill targets mail-order delivery of the abortion drug, which has allowed women living in banned states to access medication.

It is important to note that Mifepristone was originally approved by the FDA in 2000, and later its use was expanded in 2016. Mifepristone, when used according to prescriber direction, is an extremely effective medication, and poses very few risks to patient safety. Mifepristone has, without a doubt, been proven to be an effective and safe medication, and has been utilized in medicine for decades. However, it still can not be argued that Mifepristone terminates pregnancy.

Do you believe Mifepristone (Mifepex) or other abortion drugs, should be further restricted?
